What’s In Your Oats? — 8 Comments

  1. Fighting the continuous (not just in summer months) swollen hands and feet (water retention feeling) for some time, I decided to try the AIP, autoimmune paleo. The swelling subsided. I took out gluten (which has always been out), dairy, corn eggs, nuts and seeds, nightshades. I noticed a significant change.I realized that these foods (still unsure of which ones are causing an inflammatory response)

I dearly miss eggs and nuts, mostly nuts because I ate a lot throughout my normal day.

I want to reintroduce eggs and nuts to see if they made the difference. DO you have a suggestion of what to reintroduce first?

PS. I love when I have veggies galore for dinner and my girls say, “Would Linda Prout be proud?”

    • Andria, since you are sensitive to so many things, I would suggest a homeopathic for food sensitivities. This is likely an allergic sort of response. You can use Bovista 200 – one dose every other day until things clear. Remember this is a homeopathic, not a vitamin or drug, so follow the homeopathy guidelines. Didn’t you try a remedy for the fluid retention?

      • Yes, I did try a remedy for retention. It was Nat Mur. It worked so i stopped. Now i tried to use it again for a likely allergic response and it’s not working. Is that typical? Thank you!

        • Homeopathic remedies are very specific, so when you have that kind of fluid retention where Nat Mur worked, that is a good thing to repeat. Allergies are different. I would need to know a lot more about the allergies to suggest something. Sounds like this is something different.

  2. Congratlations, Linda. I am so pleased to see the high quality of your website and the intelligent selection and intepretaion of your studies of nutrition andf health: well documented, practical and thought provoking and satisfying at multiple levels of readership.

    Best regards,
    Richard (Kunin)

    • What a treat to hear from you; You are one of my favorite and most memorable mentors. I often refer back to your thought provoking wisdom and teachings. Thank you for all you do!

  3. Thanks for making this knowledge so accessible and so clear. Non GMO is not good enough in this case. Is organic always a protection here?

    • You’re welcome. Organic is the best most of us can do. Ideally we know of (or know) our farmer, who may not not have organic certification, but farms responsibly. I seek out smaller growers near me who have high levels of integrity. He or she may not get “certified” with the official organic seal, but goes above and beyond to raise good food. Organic grains are not supposed to be sprayed with any pesticides.
